What is Role of Donor Funding in Peace Agreements?

Mr. Christian Grünhagen giving a lecture to the students

Strathmore School of Humanities and Social Sciences (SHSS) invited Mr. Christian Grünhagen of Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH, to give a lecture on the role of donor funding in peace agreements.

The lecture, given to the Bachelor of Arts in International Studies students, highlighted matters on developing peace, enhancing the government’s legitimacy, the substance of social stability, economic recovery and the promotion of good governance; which take a prominent place in developing peace agreements. A government’s main agenda should be to address the regional inequalities using the various tools that have been agreed upon and through various initiatives that have been implemented and suggested through the various fund agreements.

Christian also explained different aspects of international agreements, aid declarations and aid effectiveness based on the OECD (Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development).

Christian is a lawyer by profession who has worked with GIZ since 2005. He was posted to South Sudan in 2014. Christian’s love for the people of Sudan, and his desire to see the country improve, has allowed him to work with key government officials on various policies, and on the development and implementation of peace agreements within South Sudan.
