STEPHEN MWANGI MACHARIA

Dr. Stephen Macharia is a lecturer and Head of the Writing Centre at the School of Humanities and Social Sciences of Strathmore University(SHSS). He holds a PhD in Communication Studies; a post-graduate diploma in Digital Communications from the Chartered Institute of Public Relations(CIPR); a Master of Arts (Linguistics) and a  Bachelor of Education degree (Arts). He teaches and conducts research in Communication and Education related disciplines. He is certified by the Staff Educational Development Association (SEDA – UK) in the area of Blended Learning in two spheres: Supporting Technology-Enhanced Learning (STEL) and Developing People and Enhancing Practice (DPEP). He is also certified by various institutions in the area of e-learning. These include: University of Cape Town (Certificate in Facilitating Online); Commonwealth of Learning and Athabasca University, Canada (Certificate in Introduction to Technology Enhanced Learning and Certificate in Blended Learning Practice) and KTH Royal University and Strathmore University (Certificate in Challenge Driven Education).

Besides being a tutor for at the Partnership for Enhanced Blended Learning (PEBL) project, Stephen has trained academic staff in various institutions of learning on the area of e-learning and/or instructional design and delivery, and developed several OER-published online learning modules. He is a Technology Enhanced Learning expert under TOTEMK project that aims at strengthening the capacity of teacher education and institutional management in Kenya and develop more teachers that are competent to deliver Competency Based Curriculum (CBC) in Kenyan schools. He is also a researcher under the GINTLL-REFORD project (Research-based and Future-oriented Curriculum Review and Development for Teacher Education in Kenya –  REFORD)
